I am a Stone Sculptor based in Gloucester although I am a northerner from Bradford, West Yorkshire. Each sculpture I carve is uniquely engrained with emotional and prophetic meaning.

I discovered stone carving in the craft tent at the Greenbelt Music festival in 2004. For many years I carved as a hobby alongside being a teacher, a cathedral choir school chaplain, youth worker, marketeer and finally a coordinator of a creative arts community in Westminster, London. Then we moved to Gloucestershire. After the death of my mother my life was put into perspective and I decided to sculpt full time. I am largely self taught but in 2016 gained a diploma (distinction) in stone masonry at Bath College.

I use a technique called 'Carving Direct' where each stone reveals its own shape, colour and story, to find the form within. This approach was used by Brancusi, Epstein and Henry Moore. As I carve into the stone, I sense reaching a kind of skin where the sculpture seems to take on movement and a life of its own. Every piece is unique and has its own creation story.

My work is inspired by the figurative form, nature, mythology and the Biblical narrative. In 2014 I began a series called, 'Testimonies of the Dispossessed' which are personal transformational stories carved in stone. Many of those who share their story have no voice and the stone speaks for them.

I have carved in a wide range of stone materials: soapstone, Bath Stone, Tetbury Limestone, alabasters (white, black and blue), serpentine rock, slate, marble, Red Opal, Forest of Dean sandstone, Carrara marble and sandstone but my current favourite is Portland Stone. I have carved pieces for the home, labyrinths, private gardens, public spaces (e.g. city farm, Stokes croft art garden) and charity logo's. I have also letter carved some signs. I look forward to taking on new commissions and opportunities in stone carving.
